Now in 2023, Applications Totally Online
Learn more here. This link provides all information and application forms you may need.
Each year the Japanese American Citizens League offers scholarships to college and college-bound students, and in years past, Temple members have been recipients. Therefore we encourage Temple Youth to learn more.
Eligibility. The web link above includes full details, but applicants must themselves be an individual or student/youth member of the JACL.
Note: JACL membership is open to everyone of any ethnic background. All who meet the eligibility criteria are welcomed and encouraged to apply. (We can’t speak for the JACL, but we can observe that ties with the Buddhist Temple of San Diego seem to be recognized as a meaningful tie to the Japanese American community.)
Applicants must be planning to attend full-time at a college, university, trade school, business school, or any other institution of higher learning within the United States at the undergraduate or graduate school level in the Fall of 2023. Students deferring enrollment will not qualify for the 2023 scholarship program.
Applicants may apply under only one scholarship category. The exception to this rule is that students may apply for consideration for financial aid awards in addition to another category. However, a successful applicant will only receive the higher of the two awards applied for.
Several Categories of Scholarships Available
Repeat Scholarship? The JACL confirms that if you received a JACL scholarship as an undergraduate, you could reapply later for participation in a graduate program.
